Can I Have an Outdoors Smoke Alarm?
A smoke alarm is meant to alert those inside a house that there's a little smoke. It's saying -Get out of the house while there's time-. It's also saying, there's just a little smoke, get out before breathing smoke.
Greetings Douglas,
I will like to know if I can have a fire alarm for outdoors in my house?
Thank you, DD
Because a house is enclosed and holds the heat of even a small fire inside, a house will rapidly burn if it starts out with a small fire. A smoke alarm is meant to alert those inside a house that there's a little smoke. It's saying "Get out of the house while there's time".
Another thing that a smoke alarm says is "This is just a little smoke, get out of the house before there's too much smoke to escape". Housefire smoke that's kept inside a house is also deadly poisonous. Breathing just a few breaths of a housefire's smoke can injure or kill the breather. Don't breathe smoke.
I don't know of any smoke alarm that is designed for outdoor use. Usually, somewhere in the package, the manufacturer says "Indoor Use Only". Unless the smoke alarm literature specifically says that it can be used outdoors, it's a good idea to assume that it can't be used outdoors.
