What is an Electronic Circuit?

The word circuit means circle. The beginning of the path is also the end of the path. The electricity travels from the power source, through a wire, through the load, and back to the power source through the other wire.

The word circuit means "circle". In electrical or electronic systems, the word circuit means a power source, a wire to carry the electricity to the load (light bulb, motor, horn or bell, detector, etc.), the load itself, and a wire to carry the electricity back to the power source. The electricity travels in a complete circle: circuit, loop, or pathway. The electrical current starts at the power source, travels through one wire, through the load, travels back through the other wire, and back through the power supply, making a complete circle, or "Circuit".

To be a circuit, there has to be a complete circle.
